Two Pumpkins
Description
I played with the settings of this shot in Silkypix but could not figure out what to do to make it better. I'm not saying it's good, just that I don't know what to do to it. Let me know what you would do. Feel free to play with it and post your options in the forum.

The light is good.
I think need a faster shutter speed and a better composition.
Too much free space on the left and the fish need a more strong face position and sharpness (Faster shutter speed in this case is very important, go to 1/125 or 1/160 and keep the F22 or near this value).

When you talk about comp are you suggesting cropping? Most of these things are not stationary and are constantly moving. The face is too soft and I plan on going manual next time and increasing the shutter speeds. What settings do you guys use for focusing?

I'm talking about the time at the picture is shoot.
It is very important when taking the photo because if is good don't require further work or at least requires less work.
The photo competition is very helpful to develop these attributes because there is no possibility of post processing.
I give you some personal tips if you want try or use.
I never work in live view mode.
I do the old way:
1 - In most part of the time I use Single Area AF in the middle of the display in the viewfinder.
2 - I point this little sight that appears in the center of the display (usually a small red square) to the area I want to put more emphasis on focus and when the AF tells me that is focused, slightly cousin the shutter button to lock focus at this point.
3 - Keeping the finger pressing the shutter button, I move very slow the camera to find the better composition and I shot.
4 - Check the photo on the LCD and if necessary make further adjustments to try to better the previous picture if is not good.
Of corse with fast subjects this is more difficult and I spend long time in the same place to try catch the picture I have in mind.

Weird enough, I do absolutely the same thing as Tigershark.
I guess with experience we all finally end up using the same techniques.

Thanks guys. My camera only has live view so I have to use it. I'll keep playing. I did a dive yesterday and tried manual but my camera would not take pictures unless I have the setting within certain parameters which is what I was trying to avoid. Not sure what I was doing wrong and will need to play with it on the surface where I'm not fighting the elements.
