Rapana venosa eggs
Description
Rapana Venosa eggs
June 19, 2010
Black Sea
Diving Fest 2010 shootout

The rapana is a predatory sea snail originating from the Japan sea. It was introduced to the Black sea through ballast water tanks and quickly invaded the sea and devastated the local population of black mussel, which is the sea's natural filter. Even though it's subject to commercial hunt, the Rapana population is still thriving. It is one of the worst things that happened to the Black sea.

Well detailed shot. It is very interesting how does look the rapana baby at the moment of its appearing inside of those coats? An idea for next photo!

Hm! Thanks for the idea! I believe the snails will be free swimmers when young, but who knows. I've never seen them getting out of the eggs
