I have been getting a little frustrated with my camera in manual mode so decided to read the manual and see what it is I need to do to make it work. What I found out is that in Manual mode I am limited to shutter speeds of 1/160th of a second when using the flash. It does not seem to mater if it is the on board flash or using the hot shoe. This is in forced flash mode which is the only flash mode available in manual mode. If I use S or A mode it jumps up to 1/4000 but then I have to let the camera pick the other setting and it still will stop based on available light. My problem is it is using the weak on board flash as its guide and I have much more light then that.
Is this normal for most cameras? I'd sure like full control. I tried my wifes G11 and it top stops at 1/500 which would be much better.
Let me know what you guys think I should trying to make this work the way I want.

Are you sure that this is not the max synchronization speed of the flash?
Most cameras are 'limited' in this way including the dSLRS. Even my 40D is limited to max 250 shutter.

Hi Mike, did you try to shot anyway at a faster shutter speed?
Or it's limited by the menu?

| Thanks for the link. I guess it is what it is but I wish it went higher. I've shot TTL in the past via hard wire and it worked very well. Now I need to figure out how to get my strobe to behave. I've played with manual but it only goes down to 1/8 power and that is ofter too bright so all I can do is move it. I might need to find other strobes.

Mikester, before ditching on your old strobes, I'd suggest you get a bottle of Havana club and devote one (or more if you get enough rum) late afternoons to shooting your setup on land.
I am sure you'd figure it out!
