| We are trying to figure out what this is. It is in about 40m of water and looks like it has been there since WWII. It is about 4-5m long and has a large chain coming out of a hole and on the opposite side has what looks like a connector or something.

Could be a channel marker or a mooring buoy, is the chain attached to something at the other end? and is it centered in the middle of the container?
There are some round hatches cover a I recall seing being used on some signal buoy
