Ikelite DS161 upgrade
Well I finelly broke down and sent in one of my DS125's to Ikelite. Since I got my new camera and gave my old one to my wife we have been trading the one stobe because I only have one working cable right now. With both of us having new to us cameras we both want the stobe so I figured it was time. They have a upgrade program that lets you upgrade the 125 to either a 160 or 161. I am going for the 161 for the video light. I'll let Tammy use the other DS125 with the TTL slave sensor and I will us the DS161 in manual. It has more settings so will be more flexible in manual mode. If I had the money right now I would just upgrade both and get the Y cable. I miss shooting with 2 strobes but have had bad luck with the Ikelite cables.

With any luck I will have it in a couple of weeks. Is anyone here shooting with this strobe? I'd like to know what people think of the video light.

Re: Ikelite DS161 upgrade
So after they looked at my strobe and sent me a quote I decided not to do the upgrade and asked them to just ship back the 125.

Sorry to hear that mate...

Was the quote too high?

Re: Ikelite DS161 upgrade
Higher then I wanted it to be. Then when I said I might just keep the 125 they told me it had a bad connector that could break and cause flooding but they would not replace it because I didn't send the strobe in every year for annual service (first I've heard of this for a strobe). It's a $1 part and that is how they want to play it??? Not real happy with how they are treating me. They were very fast with the emails and a soon as I asked them to send it back and gave them my cc info for shipping I have not heard back from them. They were replying in 10 minutes or so and now it's been 2 days and I don't know if they're sending it back or what. If I don't hear anything by tomorrow morning I'll give them a call.

Re: Ikelite DS161 upgrade
I got my old strobe back. I also got the ikelite to Nikonos cable and it is nice to be able to use the strobe without the camera flash. The rebuilt 125 to 161 strobe was going to cost me $800 dollars vs. $950 new and I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I ended up finding a new 161 for $810 so I get the new one without having to loose my 125 for $10 more so that is a big plus for me. The battery is shot on the 125 but it will fire off a few flashes and I want to try using both tomorrow. It has been a few years since my y cable broke and I've used 2 strobes. It is heavy!

I am looking at adding the Ikelite PRO-2800 LED Video Lite to pair with the 161 as a standard setup.
